The Digital Media Program offers students the opportunity to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the use of digital media technology. With the increasing market demand for skilled media specialists, multimedia developers, digital media authoring specialists, web designers, audio/video engineers, and streaming media specialists, this curriculum offers a wide range of career opportunities for graduates. Throughout the program, students can learn concepts, techniques, and tools related to digital media design, interface design, audio/video editing, and web design. Project management, creative design, and communication skills training are integrated throughout this dynamic curriculum.

Bachelor Level Core Competencies / Educational Outcomes

  • Explain the principles of good digital media, web page, interface, navigation, and informational design.
  • Create, evaluate, and edit storyboards, scripts, graphics, streaming media, 2D animation, text, audio, and video files.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use digital media authoring tools, media editing tools, and software design tools.
  • Integrate knowledge of graphic, animation, audio and video development tools, and digital media software into media projects.
  • Follow professional, legal, and ethical guidelines used within the digital media industry and in business relations.
  • Prepare a professional digital media portfolio and web site.
  • Obtain practical work skills and knowledge through studio production, project management, internship, and/or capstone experiences.

Performance Objectives

Design Skills: To analyze and develop creative solutions to digital media problems, and convert concepts into final, professional designs. To gain an understanding of design principles, streaming media, compositional needs, drawing techniques, digital imaging and illustration, web design, storyboarding, and sound technology.

Professional Skills: To gain an understanding of professional business practices in design, communicate effectively with other designers, and apply professional standards and regulations within assigned work. To gain familiarity with current technology and software, and with the workings of a professional design studio.

Communication and Critical Thinking Skills: To generate creative solutions to challenging assignments, demonstrating a clear understanding of project needs and technological demands. To communicate ideas effectively through written and oral presentations of assigned work, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, and create versatile designs for a variety of client needs.
